17 Mile Drive
17 mile drive is a famous destination for people visiting the Monterey Bay area. We took a quick jaunt there to see what all the fuss was about.
How does one describe 17 mile drive. Well first it’s 17 miles long. It’s also surprisingly a drive. It winds around the coast north of Carmel and Pebble Beach Golf course is one of the potential stops. There are mansions everywhere.
The day we went it was extremely windy and cold so we didn’t get out of the car a lot. You can drive through it in about 30 minutes if you don’t stop. It seemed like there were a lot of areas to stop and hike and enjoy the beauty so I bet you could spend all day there if the weather is nice.
Since it was cold and windy we stopped at just a few turnouts. The Lone Cypress tree is supposedly the most photographed tree in the country. It didn’t really seem lonely as there were tons of people gawking at it. Maybe it just needs to change it’s attitude and see that it actually has a lot of friends. How do you name yourself Lonely Cypress and then get photographed so much?
Proof that it’s not lonely. Mason and Madelyn had fun goofing off with the tree.
I continue to be amazed by the beauty in this area. It makes me realize how limited my vocabulary is as it is so hard to describe it.
